Hello, my name is Michael O’Neill, thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I first started taking photographs as part of my sociology curriculum at Wake Forest University. After graduating with a BA in Psychology in 1996, I began working as a commercial photo assistant in Charlotte, North Carolina for clients from all over the world. After several years learning my craft from some of the best, I began my own commercial business photographing architecture and documenting art for clients such as Prudential Real Estate, Bank of America and Davidson College. I began teaching photography at The Light Factory in 1998, after a summer as the photo department intern at the Maine Photographic Workshops. My love of teaching photography led me to New Mexico, where I earned an MFA in photography from New Mexico State University in 2007, after studying with David Taylor. After teaching at the Santa Fe Community College, I recently finished an appointment as Visiting Professor of Art at New Mexico State University. I am currently thrilled to be back in North Carolina, teaching photography full time at the Art Institute of Charlotte.
